According to an article posted in The Southern Illinoisan yesterday, Houlihan’s in Carbondale will shut down at close of business today. Co-owner Trace Brown indicated that “changes” Carbondale has experienced led to their decision to close the Houlihan’s franchise. His comments in the article hint that their move toward a more economical menu might better suit the area’s current needs.
They plan to re-open the business by April 1st, but have not yet announced the new name and concept. Rumors are of course already circulating, and include this location possibly becoming a seafood restaurant.
Good news in the Carbondale restaurant category include the recent announcement of a McAlister’s Deli opening soon in the chain-heavy east side near Barnes & Noble, Bandana’s Bar-B-Q recently opening in the former Stadium Grill location near downtown, and Pita Alley recently open in the Murdale Shopping Center (review coming soon).
