Pumpkin Spice Hotcake at The Vault Cafe

If you are looking for a good place to eat breakfast, lunch or brunch in Marion, we highly recommend you visit The Vault Cafe on the Square.

Not only to you typically get seated quickly, your service will be outstanding and the food will hit the spot. Plus you get to eat in old bank, and maybe you will luck out and get the table INSIDE the actual bank vault. Seriously!

This restaurant is located inside a 100 year-old historic building in downtown Marion.  Grab a parking spot wherever you can find one on the square.  Once inside, the high ceilings and marble throughout (and yes the actual bank vault) remind you that you are dining in a historic location. Pick anything off of the menu though, and your surroundings will soon become secondary to what is on your plate.

The Vault Cafe Marion With a wide variety of breakfast and lunch items to chose from, along with available monthly specials, you will not go wrong with anything here.  Build your own omelet, or have the Hawaiian bread french toast for breakfast (among many other options) or they have soup, salads and sandwiches for lunch. They have also recently added a “Hot Plate Lunch” special, so be sure to check their Facebook page for updates.

Feeling price gouged just about everywhere these days? Not here! Everything on the menu is fairly priced, so you leave with a full belly without spending more than you would for a “value meal” at one of those drive-thru places.

The day that we visited the Vault Cafe was a chilly morning just before Thanksgiving.  There was a good brunch crowd already seated when we arrived, but we did not have to wait for one of the few available tables. We were immediately greeted by our server and she was quick with hot cups of coffee.  We both went for the monthly specials at the time, which for me was the Pumpkin Spice Hotcake.  My date ordered the “Good As Gold” Breakfast Sandwich (ham, bacon, egg, cheese served between Hawaiian Bread French Toast) served with hash browns or fried potatoes.

Both meals were brought out hot and fast. I had to recruit help to finish the plate-sized hotcake, and yes I did eat the candy corn garnish that had warmed and softened in a pool of melted butter. It was the perfect fall treat.  My date scarfed down his “Good as Gold” sandwich as if he hadn’t eaten in days (which he of course had, but it was just that good). We were even more pleased when we saw our check. What a great deal! Two bottomless cups of coffee with two great meals for less than a total of $15! You leave satisfied from a great meal, happy you didn’t spend much for it, and feeling good about supporting a locally-owned business! It’s a win-win-win!

The Vault Cafe is currently not open for dinner, so be sure to get there before their daily 2:00pm closing time.  Bypass the lines and generic menus in the franchise restaurants and support a local business!
